Overview

Tether Gold (XAUT) is a gold-backed token issued by Tether, where each XAUT token represents ownership of one troy fine ounce of physical gold held on a specific gold bar. It is available as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain and as a TRC-20 token on the TRON blockchain, and holders can transfer it from their Tether wallet to any on-chain address.

The underlying physical gold is stored in a vault in Switzerland, and Tether states that it has direct control over that storage. The product is also described as charging no custody fees, and the token's market value tracks movements in the price of gold.
