An L2 with a giant vault

Mantle (MNT) is a Layer 2 (L2) that scales Ethereum while unusually holding a 'giant treasury' of its own. It inherited billions of dollars in assets accumulated by the former large decentralized organization 'BitDAO' and pours them into ecosystem growth.

In other words, Mantle is an L2 with both technology and huge capital. That deep financial firepower is what sets it apart from other L2s.

Modular design โ€” what's different

Mantle chose a 'modular' structure. Rather than handling a blockchain's many roles (executing transactions, storing data, consensus) in one body, it splits them among specialized layers. In particular, it uses 'EigenDA' for data availability (DA) to cut costs.

Separating roles this way allows cheaper, more flexible scaling. 'A blockchain assembled like Lego blocks' is the idea behind modular design.

Ecosystem โ€” mETH and treasury management

Mantle's strength is connecting capital to a real ecosystem. Notably it has 'mETH', a liquid-staking product that earns rewards on deposited Ethereum, and it manages its vast treasury in real-world assets and funds to generate yield and liquidity.

The strategy is to use this capital and liquidity to offer incentives to the DeFi and app ecosystem and draw users in.

Mantle in 2026

Leveraging its position as a 'well-capitalized L2', Mantle is widening its ecosystem in a finance-heavy direction โ€” liquid staking, index products and institutional ties. A thick treasury is what keeps the project going even in tough markets.

But more capital doesn't automatically bring usage, so becoming 'a chain that is actually used a lot' is the challenge.

Roadmap โ€” modular expansion and finance

Mantle's roadmap focuses on improving modular performance (cheaper data, faster processing), expanding liquidity products and financial services, and nurturing the ecosystem with the treasury.

The direction is to establish itself as 'an L2 that converts abundant capital into real usage'.

What to watch with Mantle

Mantle's biggest weakness is differentiation amid fierce L2 competition. With strong rivals like Arbitrum, Optimism and Base, capital alone can't hold users for long. How much value truly accrues to the MNT token is also debated.

Transparency about treasury performance and structure is worth noting too. This article is information, not advice; always make investment decisions at your own responsibility.
