Ethereum Classic(ETC)

Overview

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is the blockchain that continued the original Ethereum chain after the network hard-forked in 2016 in response to The DAO hack. Supporters of the unforked chain argued that transactions should not be reversed, following the principle often summarized as 'code is law,' and kept the existing transaction history intact.

Ethereum Classic still uses proof-of-work consensus, operating as a mining-based network in contrast to Ethereum, which moved to proof-of-stake. It remains compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), supporting smart contracts and decentralized applications, and it follows a monetary policy with a capped total supply.
