ZKsync(ZK)

Overview

ZKsync is an Ethereum layer-2 network built to improve scalability, using a ZK rollup design based on zero-knowledge proofs. Transactions are processed off-chain in batches, with only a validity proof submitted to Ethereum, aiming to lower fees and raise throughput while inheriting Ethereum's security. It is developed by Matter Labs, which launched the first version in 2020 and expanded to zkSync Era (now ZKsync Era) in 2023.

ZK is the native token of the ZKsync ecosystem, distributed beginning with an airdrop in June 2024. Its primary stated uses include governance voting and paying network fees, with a designed total supply of 21 billion tokens. The project has promoted an "Elastic Chain" concept that links multiple chains through zero-knowledge proofs, built on its ZK Stack framework.
