Overview

Virtuals Protocol is an AI agent launchpad platform launched in 2024 that lets users create, tokenize, and monetize AI agents for gaming, entertainment, and virtual environments without technical expertise. Originally built on Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, the protocol expanded to Ethereum mainnet, Solana, and Ronin as of 2025. The VIRTUAL token serves as the base liquidity pair and transactional currency for AI agent activity across the ecosystem.

The protocol uses a bonding curve model in which creating a new AI agent costs 100 VIRTUAL, and an agent token graduates to a permanent liquidity pool paired with VIRTUAL once it reaches 42,000 VIRTUAL. Agents run on the GAME framework, supporting text, speech, and 3D animation while autonomously managing on-chain wallets; a well-known example is Luna, an AI vocalist with more than 500,000 TikTok followers. Founded by Jansen Teng and Weekee Tiew, the project evolved from PathDAO, a 2021 gaming guild that pivoted to AI agents in January 2024, and raised $16 million in seed funding led by DeFiance Capital and Beam.
