A network that rents out spare GPUs

Render (RENDER) is a decentralized network that rents out the computing power of graphics cards (GPUs) sitting idle around the world. Making 3D graphics and video effects (VFX) needs enormous GPU computation, and Render spreads that work across spare GPUs.

It was built by the graphics-software company 'OTOY', and creators submit their jobs and pay in the RENDER coin. 'A marketplace that gathers and sells scattered GPUs' is Render's identity.

How it works โ€” sellers and buyers

The Render network has two sides. People with GPUs (providers) lend their spare power and earn RENDER, while creators who need rendering (buyers) pay in RENDER. The blockchain automatically brokers the results and payment.

So without owning an expensive render farm (large GPU servers), you can cheaply borrow GPUs from around the world when you need them. It effectively decentralizes cloud rendering.

From RNDR to RENDER โ€” the move to Solana

Render originally started as Ethereum-based 'RNDR', but due to fee and speed issues it moved to Solana in 2023โ€“2024 and changed its name to 'RENDER' โ€” to handle rendering jobs, which involve many small payments, in a cheaper, faster environment.

That migration was an important turning point where the Render ecosystem rebuilt its infrastructure to fit real usage.

GPUs and AI โ€” a flagship of DePIN

The reason Render draws so much attention lately is AI. AI training and inference also need GPU compute, and Render's 'distributed GPU' model fits that demand. Render is seen as a flagship of 'DePIN' โ€” connecting real-world hardware (GPUs) to the blockchain.

Its direction is to widen beyond graphics rendering into 'distributed compute infrastructure for the AI era'.

Roadmap โ€” expanding compute resources

Render's roadmap is to grow the GPUs joining the network and expand to handle diverse work โ€” not just graphics but AI and scientific computation. Advancing job distribution, quality verification and the reward system are also core tasks.

It moves toward the picture of 'turning the world's spare compute into one giant computer'.

What to watch with Render

Render's key is real demand. Demand for AI and graphics compute is rising sharply, but what matters for value is how much of it is actually paid for and processed through the Render network. Its price also swings with the AI narrative.

It must compete with rival DePIN projects like Akash and io.net and with cheap centralized clouds. This article is information, not advice; always make investment decisions at your own responsibility.
