Linea(LINEA)

Overview

Linea is an Ethereum Layer 2 network developed by Consensys, built as a zkEVM rollup that uses zero-knowledge proofs. Its mainnet alpha launched in July 2023, and the chain targets Ethereum equivalence so that existing smart contracts and developer tooling can be used with little or no modification. Transactions are executed off-chain and validity proofs are submitted to Ethereum mainnet, which lowers fees and increases throughput relative to the base layer.

LINEA is the network's ecosystem token, issued in September 2025; gas on the network is paid in ETH rather than in the token. The design includes a dual burn mechanism that directs a portion of network fees to burning both ETH and LINEA, along with native yield on bridged ETH. Linea is integrated with Consensys infrastructure such as MetaMask and Infura, and supports a range of DeFi and bridging applications.
