Grass(GRASS)

Overview

Grass is a decentralized network in which users share unused internet bandwidth in exchange for tokens. Launched in 2023 and built on the Solana blockchain, it lets participants run nodes through a browser extension or desktop application. The shared bandwidth is used to collect publicly available web data, which the project aims to supply to companies and research groups building training datasets for artificial intelligence models.

The GRASS token is the network's native token; it began trading in October 2024 alongside an airdrop that allocated a substantial share of the initial supply to early bandwidth contributors. The project describes a layer-2 structure and ledger records intended to verify data provenance and processing steps. At the same time, the bandwidth-sharing model has drawn ongoing discussion about privacy and website terms of service, since third parties route requests through participants' connections.
