Overview

Blockchain Capital (BCAP) is a tokenized security issued in April 2017 by Blockchain Capital, a venture capital firm focused on the blockchain industry. The token digitally represents a limited partnership interest in the firm's third fund, Blockchain Capital III Digital Liquid Venture Fund LP, and is widely cited as one of the earliest examples of a compliance-oriented security token.

BCAP was issued as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain and raised approximately $10 million in its offering. Because it was sold under private placement exemptions from U.S. securities law, holding and transferring the token is restricted to whitelisted wallet addresses belonging to verified accredited investors, making its circulation far more limited than that of typical cryptocurrencies.
